Employees Make Contributions throughout the Community

The experience, talent and dedication of the Bulldog Media Group staff is not only appreciated within the office walls, but throughout the community as well.

Employees are active, engaged, and often found volunteering in the community on various civic boards, with the fire department, at the ball fields, in their churches, and in the schools. They are quick to lend a hand and to see a need. So in November, when they met to discuss different community needs, they decided to donate almost $2300 to different causes throughout the community.

One of the causes receiving support is the local Domestic Violence Network, which is currently raising funds for a new shelter. Additional funds were donated to local kids in need as well as a group of students who will be participating in the Global Leadership Summer - Future in Food program.

Also, in November, a new sign welcoming visitors into town was installed that was created, designed and paid for by the employees of Bulldog Media Group. Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Rosie Jamison, spoke to the employees as they posed for a picture with the sign, “This is a tribute to what you do every day. It shows you think that this community is worth something, and you did something about it.”

Police Chief Justin Meyer and Madison’s animal control officer Russ Klosterman recently visited with the employees of Bulldog Media Group about the proposed new animal shelter.

In addition to discussing the current condition of the 40-50 year old shelter, employees learned about the volume of animal-related calls the city receives annually, the proposed location and plan details for the new shelter, and about a donation of up to $25,000 in matching funds currently available.

Employees presented Chief Meyer with a $500 donation towards the project that will be counted towards the current matching campaign.

Advantage South Dakota Group Hears from Bulldog Media Group

Employment recruiters on a two-day tour of East River communities heard from local Madison businesses about their personnel needs and what they could offer employees. The participants met with management from organizations that included Madison Community Hospital, Manitou-Gehl, Dakota State University, FirstLine Funding Group and Bulldog Media Group at the headquarters of East River Electric Power Cooperative.

Julie Gross, executive director of the Lake Area Improvement Corporation, helped organize the Madison stop for a job opportunities showcase sponsored by Advantage South Dakota. The Advantage South Dakota group held the Tuesday, October 1st and Wednesday, October 2nd bus tour to demonstrate the economic and employment opportunities available in the James River Valley.

Tammy Miller, CEO at Madison Community Hospital, described the local hospital as a small, 25-bed facility which is independent from larger South Dakota health-care organizations. Miller stated the hospital, which is currently constructing a new facility on the south side of Madison, presently employs about 200 individuals and every staff member, from housekeepers to doctors, perform important duties.

Miller told the recruiters that the health-care industry across the nation faced looming shortages of medical personnel.

Dr. David Borofsky, DSU president, told the recruiters that "...there is a lot happening at DSU at this time." Borofsky said that the university planned to purchase the current hospital property located on the north side of the campus. Borofsky stated there were a number of staff positions currently open at DSU.

Kim Kringen from FirstLine Funding Group in Madison said the commercial finance company has continued to grow since it was created in 2009 as a division of First Bank & Trust, and was presently looking to expand its operations into the North Dakota oil fields. According to Kringen, FirstLine Funding Group employs staff ranging in age from college students to seniors and provides flexible working hours. The business' current personnel needs include a receptionist, personnel in document management and collections, as well as Spanish-speaking employees.

Dustin Williams, plant manager of Manitou-Gehl, said the Madison manufacturing plant currently employs 275 individuals for a company that sells about half of its products domestically and exports the other half to customers around the world. Williams told the group that Gehl was seeking a purchasing agent and was also employing workers in shop positions, such as assemblers, welders and laser cutters.

Camelyn Sims of Bulldog Media Group said the online marketing company started over 13 years ago with one website but currently operates multiple websites, and partners with companies across the US, as well as abroad. Sims stated that Bulldog Media Group was currently seeking individuals with skills in web and software development. According to Sims, over a third of their employees have worked at Bulldog Media Group for 10+ years.

Other communities that the Sioux Falls recruiters were scheduled to visit included DeSmet, Milbank, Webster, Aberdeen, Redfield, Huron, Mitchell, Chamberlain, Freeman and Yankton.

Businesses Expand Downtown

A couple of businesses in downtown Madison are preparing to expand... downtown.

The former Montgomery’s Furniture and Radio Shack building on North Egan Avenue in downtown Madison has been purchased by Power Promotions and Bulldog Media Group, Inc.

Bulldog Media Group, Inc. has occupied the upper level of the building for almost 11 years and looks forward to remaining downtown.

Power Promotions is currently located across the street and will be able to maintain a downtown presence while expanding their business. The additional space will allow them to expand both their inventory and services. Power Promotions is owned by Scott and Deanna Backus and is planning to move into their new location in September.

Some renovations are planned for both levels of the building with a grand opening for both businesses in the Fall.

Assistance for the purchase of the building comes from an economic development loan from the Lake Area Improvement Corporation. The funds used to assist both businesses are from the USDA.

The arrangement is good for both businesses, as well as the Madison Downtown and Beyond taskforce whose mission is to enhance the vitality of the Madison area through retail opportunities and downtown economic development.

Employees Go Back to School

Volunteers from Bulldog Media Group, Inc. spent time on Friday, June 7th moving books and arranging the new library at Madison High School.

Madison High School began a major renovation project in 2012 that included the addition of a new library, which replaced the previous high school, as well as middle school library. Moving and arranging the libraries was a large undertaking, so when Bulldog Media Group, Inc. employees contacted the school district in March to see how they could help, assisting with the library move seemed like a great opportunity.

Bulldog Media Group, Inc. Employees Donate to Renovation

Renovations have been underway at the baseball diamond at Baughman-Belatti Park in Madison, SD for just over a year. To assist in the funding of the project, employees from Bulldog Media Group, Inc. donated $500 from their Bulldog Media Group, Inc. Employee Fund. That donation was then matched by Bulldog Media Group, Inc. for a total contribution of $1000 towards the renovation.

The renovation plan consists of three phases including new dugouts, lighting, a scoreboard, equipment storage shed, and mowing equipment; as well as a concession stand and restrooms, a sprinkler system, and outfield fence readjustment. The first phase of the renovation is complete and employees from Bulldog Media Group, Inc. recently visited the updated facility to check out the improvements.

“We were actually getting into business when a lot of people were getting out back in 2000 during the ‘dot com bubble’,” stated president Darin Namken. “We saw a need that we knew we could meet and things really took off for us from there. In establishing ourselves, we established partnerships and relationships that have lasted years, which has a lot to do with having over a third of our employees having been with our company for more than 10 years. While we have really remained resilient, we’ve seen many businesses, competitors, and clients come and go over the years for various reasons, including legislation, but we just look forward to the challenge ahead and the opportunities to succeed. ”

Bulldog Media Group, Inc. has continued to meet changing needs and demands by providing many different marketing avenues through its divisions: the CommissionSoup affiliate network, Infusion Strategies, and The RewardsRunner Network. Recent Updates on recently completed an extensive set of updates on their website. The updates, which were published last week, were the first of many in the works. This first phase focused on enhancing the users’ experience and highlighting merchants and their offers, while increasing the speed of the site.

A major part of the build centered on improving the member’s experience. When a user registers to become a member, their registered home page now has the same look and feel as when they first experienced the site. The registration process was also shortened to a one page process, making it more efficient for the users.

For the merchants, we added a couple new tabs to our members’ registered home page. So in addition to being able to feature and highlight merchants in the “Most Popular” tab, we added a “Recent Offers” tab, which features the most recently added offers and updates every time a new offer is added. A “New Store” tab was also added to highlight new merchants.

The offer pages were also reformatted to create a better experience for the user and a better call-to-action for the merchants.

The many layout, backend, and design changes have enhanced the efficiency, experience, and overall look of the site. will continue this rebuild process throughout 2011 with more changes to come to continue enhancing the overall experience for the user and the merchant.
